Scottish Football

One of the most overlooked aspects of Scottish culture is its fantastic underground music scene. Very few bands break out of their immediate locales through a combination of a desire to keep it real in the scene and the general apathy of A&R men to anything outside of London, but a tour through the bars and gig venues of any Scottish city will reveal a burgeoning stream of talent that could grace nearly any stage. Nowhere is this more evident than in Aberdeen , where local acts have a large and militant fan base amongst local young people.

Quite why labels aren't really interested in scouting far flung locations like Aberdeen is essentially down to arrogance and laziness. As long as they have someone on their books making some money then they aren't too fussed about going out and discovering the next great thing, especially if it means travelling the length of the country to Aberdeen . It is also far more work to take a raw band and mould them in to a commercially viable act themselves, than wait for an enterprising manager to make the initial alterations beforehand and then sign them at that point. The London based labels also know that if someone really wants to make it, they will move down to London anyway, saving them the hassle of travelling to places like Aberdeen to see them.

Unfortunately for the time being this great resource of British creativity will remain untapped, but once one band from the area makes it they will hopefully open the floodgates.
